Charlie Cheese : Facebook Milestone

I set up the CC facebook page a long time ago, and after four years, we've just hit 300 likes.

(Knowing my luck when I post this, it'll have gone back down!)

It's been difficult promoting the page on Facebook - you can invite your friends, but not all of them are interested and will decline, or you can create sponsored adverts, for robots and fake pages to give the page likes - which is a pointless exercise.
I don't over post on Facebook, so I'm not a bother, but I will update it fairly frequently when I need to.

Either way, hitting 300 likes is fabulous news!
I'm aiming to promote better, somehow, so we can reach 500 likes before the end of the year - without the help of fake pages and likes.

Possible Audiobook ?

I've been contemplating making an audio book for my Charlie Cheese Books..
Mainly because I'll find it hilarious that a slice of brie has a strong Yorkshire accent!

When working with littlies, we had the odd CD with audiobooks on, I think it was a few books by Julia Donaldson, and the children loved them - because they had freedom to act out the story along with the narrator - plus it introduced literature to busy bodies who don't like sitting to read.

It's definitely on the cards for the near future.
I've read my books aloud millions of times, but everyone hates the sound of their own voice, so who knows.. I'm going to record myself reading in the next few weeks, to see if it's something that can be completed soon, or if it's a project to come back to down the line.

I am excited to find the voice of Charlie and Mouse, though!

Revisiting A WIP : The Macroodelzig!

I recently revisited a WIP that I began last year - it was to create a Dr Seuss style story.
It's not quite Dr Seuss, but it's definitely a Beffy Parkin!

It's a children's story, loosely based on my dog, Ziggy. She's a naughty, silly but lovable little dog, who doesn't understand boundaries - she is the ideal children's book character!
I have written up The Macroodelzig, and I'm just waiting on illustrations now - so the book should be released this year! Oh yeah, already smashing my 2019 writing challenges!
Revisiting a work in progress will always be rewarding, you need breaks away from your work so it doesn't go stale and you start to hate it - a break allows fresh eyes on a project, and it can have a happy ending - if not, let it rest a little longer!

Collecting Material

Whilst having a day out this week, this beauty was found:

After finding this pleasant surprise, I've decided I need to really consider writing some novels..
Based in Australia.. Or Hawaii..
But it'll be a very long winded book, so I'd need to collect material, for approximately, a year?

I never thought of this aspect of writing - changing your scenery to spark ideas or research a particular place/event.
This is probably because I can find inspiration to write whilst running a bath, or having a drive, or trying not to burn pasta sauce.
I definitely need to broaden my horizons and get myself off to interesting places - to see what weird and wonderful things I could come up with!

The Joys Of 3am Writing

I've forgotten how to sleep apparently...

Luckily, my brain sees this as the most perfect opportunity to give me absolutely cracking ideas.

So, this morning around 3am, I wrote a short, in my phone, in notes, nothing fancy. Now, normally the notes I leave for myself during the night are utter nonsense, usually consisting of phrases I'd coined which no longer make sense to anyone in the world.

Today was different, this story had a message, it was strong. It was a lovely surprise. So when it was an acceptable time to leave my bed, I drew up a storyboard (poorly because not everyone is lucky enough to be able to draw nice things), and I am happy with it!

I said I would film something this year, and it's definitely something I can manage despite having no money to throw at it!

Getting Into Storyboards

I've really enjoyed drawing up storyboards for my ideas lately, despite my lack of artistic talent..

Writing can burn you out, especially when you picture something in your mind, but your brain decides to freeze when it comes to writing it up - there's nothing worse than an idea that's stuck! If you can sketch it quickly, then the idea is out and in front of you - and therefore not stopping the writing process. You can go back to it when your brain wants to work!

The fun thing about creating storyboards is framing your work exactly how you expected it.
So, I've decided now, to mock one up for every short story or idea I write up - just in case I get the chance to film it, it can be perfect. It doesn't take anything away from the quality of writing, but it enhances and sets the scene in the event of filming.

I created a Redbubble account for CC a while ago, but I have recently updated the merch this month in time for Christmas. I have added new, unseen artwork from the latest book, too!

Green, Green Grass Of Alone - Ten Word Story

Not too long ago, whilst being super busy on Submittable, I found Dime Show Review.
They were looking for ten word stories, so I gave it a go. It sounds easy enough, until you're a word under, then you get frustrated as you don't just want to throw any old word in to bulk the numbers, I got there in the end.

I submitted my ten word story for Dime Show Review and I was lucky enough to have it accepted!

I really enjoyed entering this piece of creative writing, they typed it lovingly with a trypewriter for me to make it look pretty.
